FAQs
Please see below for common questions and answers about your visit at Haas Osteopathic Medicine. Feel free to contact us with any further questions you may have here.
- 01Click on the “book appointment” green button at the top right of the page and follow the link to access the patient portal. From there, you can book your appointment online.
- 02Please log into your patient portal and complete the following tabs: • My Account Details • Questionnaires • Consent Forms Gather any relevant imaging (X-rays, MRIs, CT scans), lab work, or notes from other providers related to your concern. You can either upload these to the portal or bring paper copies to your visit. This process takes about 15–20 minutes. The more information you provide, the more effectively we can address the root of your concern. We also recommend wearing comfortable, flexible clothing to your visit.
- 03We’ll begin by reviewing your medical history, using the forms you filled out online and clarifying as needed. Next, I’ll perform a physical exam that may include: • Listening to the heart and lungs • Neck and neurological exams • Joint or musculoskeletal evaluations • An osteopathic structural exam We’ll then discuss findings, my assessment, and an initial treatment plan. Lastly, I will treat the body using hands-on Osteopathic Manual Medicine (OMM) techniques. These gentle methods are guided by your body’s unique history of stress and strain, and allow for a new pattern of function to emerge. Many patients describe feeling relaxed both during and after treatment.
- 04Often, patients are surprised by how subtle OMM can feel. There are a variety of techniques, some more direct, involving “popping” or “cracking,” while others are indirect, like balancing tension in the body’s tissues. I often explain it like a stuck drawer. One way to fix it is to push it back in firmly (more direct), or you can gently wiggle it out and then slide it back in (more indirect). In treatment, I typically use more indirect techniques, and occasionally, if the body requires it, will utilize direct techniques.
- 05Avoid vigorous activity for 48 hours. A gentle walk is ok, but refrain from heavy lifting, pushing/pulling, cleaning, or working out for 48 hours. Your body needs time to integrate the changes made during the treatment. It is also important to drink plenty of water–more than usual, even if you are typically well-hydrated. Occasionally, some patients may experience mild soreness for 1-2 days afterward. Drinking a lot of water helps with this. Osteopathic treatment continues working on your body after you leave the office. The process begins on the treatment table, but the effect continues long after you leave the clinic. If possible, please schedule any other treatments, including massage, acupuncture, physical therapy, or chiropractor at least 2-3 days after your osteopathic appointment to allow your system adequate time to fully respond to each treatment before the next is introduced.
- 06You may experience positive results after the first treatment, though it can take a series of treatments to determine how helpful OMM will be for your specific concern. In general, babies and children often respond quickly, sometimes within 1-2 treatments. The more chronic the issue, typically the longer the healing time may take. Most new patients begin with weekly visits for 2-3 weeks. As your body begins to respond, we space out appointments every 2-3 weeks. On average, you should expect to see some signs of improvement within 3-5 treatments. After your initial recovery, quarterly or biannual visits can be helpful to maintain your wellness. The goal is for you to heal, build resilience and need fewer visits over time.
- 07I am considered an out-of-network provider and do not have contracts with any insurance companies. We do not bill your insurance directly. However, after each visit, we will provide you with a detailed superbill which you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. The amount of reimbursement you receive will depend on your specific policy. Some patients receive full or partial reimbursements, while others may have the cost applied toward their yearly deductible. Please check with your insurance provider to understand your out-of-network benefits. Medicare patients: I have opted out of Medicare, but you may be able to submit the superbill to your secondary insurance for potential reimbursement.

- 09While I am trained as a Family Physician, my role in this practice is specialized, and I do not serve as a Primary Care Provider (PCP). We do not provide routine annual exams or management of primary medical conditions, such as diabetes or high blood pressure. Instead, we offer focused support for patients seeking a more integrative approach to care. We are happy to work in collaboration with your PCP and other specialists to help provide a comprehensive treatment plan as needed.
